Omate TrueSmart hits $850,000 on Kickstarter

Many KickStarter campaigns crash and burn, but every so often one raises so much money that it easily surpasses the initial goal outline.

A gadget company based in New York called Omate recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for their TrueSmart smartwatch. They claim the product is a ‘truly standalone' device which has full smartwatch functionality but also works as a wirelessly linked companion device.

TrueSmart has voice call and social media capabilities and integrates GPU navigation and a 5 megapixel camera. It is powered by a 1.3ghz dual core Cortex A7 processor and has 512MB of memory onboard with 4GB of solid state storage with a microSIM card slot. The 600 mAh battery is rated to last for 100 hours on standby.

The product is designed to achieve IP67 standards, with water resistance. The panel is 1.54inches in size and has a resolution of 240×240 pixels. It is multi touch capable and covered with a scratch resistant Sapphire Crystal glass. Underwater the touch screen won't work, so there are traditional buttons on the side of the watch.

The TrueSmart runs on Android 4.2.2 and has full access to the Google Play App Store as well. It can be connected to any existing smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 or 802.11 b/g/n Wifi.

The company wanted to raise $100,000, but at the time of press it is hovering around the $850,000 mark. If all goes according to plan, the smartwatch should be shipped before the end of the year for $299.
