Sony confident to sell 3 million PS4’s by the end of the year

Sony is confident that it will ship 3 million PS4's by the end of the year and have 5 million in people's homes by the end of the fiscal year, Sony US President and CEO Jack Tretton, said in an interview with Bloomberg.

““This is a marathon, not a sprint, but getting out to a nice start is a good thing,” Tretton said. “That hurdle has been cleared. We’re very, very confident we’re in great shape.”

Back in 2006, Sony faced some supply issues with the Playstation 3 but it looks like Sony has learned from those lessons and is gearing up for the huge demand. That said, there has been rumours of tight stock over the holiday season.

The Playstation 4 will release in the US later this week on the 15th and on the 29th for Europe, by the holidays the Playstation 4 will be available in 32 countries while the Xbox One will only be available in 13 countries.

An analyst said last month that the PS4 will sell 3 million units by the end of the year, a figure that the Sony US President says the company is comfortable with:

“We’re very comfortable with it,” Tretton said. “I’m excited about next week to be able to talk about what was sold as opposed to what we may sell.”
