According to insider, FFXVI will not be EGS exclusive

After a great deal of waiting, Square Enix finally confirmed that the much-loved and latest entry in the Final Fantasy series – FFXVI – will be coming to PC and is currently in active development. Unlike previous PC ports of other Final Fantasy titles, it would seem as though FFXVI will not be exclusive to the Epic Games Store at launch.

Following the official announcement that Final fantasy XVI is currently in development for the PC platform, many fans feared that the highly-praised Action-JRPG would once again be exclusive to the Epic Games Store – as was the case with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Fortunately, it seems as though no such deal is in place for FFXVI, with the features editor at VG247 (Alex Donaldson) taking to ResetEra to quell fears, responding to talk of its EGS exclusivity by stating “Not to my knowledge, no.”

For context, over a year and a half after the game first arrived on PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII Remake came to PC – though it was exclusive to the Epic Games Store (launching in December of 2021). Almost exactly 6 months later to the day, the PC port was unshackled from Epic’s platform, arriving on Steam in June of 2022.

If what Donaldson has claimed is true, then all PC users should be able to enjoy the critically acclaimed title at the exact same time – when it most likely releases some time next year.
