Solidrun have just announced their second generation computer – the CuBox-i. This tiny little computer is fanless and therefore completely silent. It is available in black or red.
The CuBox-i1 is able to run Android Jelly Bean or Linux and has a 1GHZ processor, 3D graphics and 512MB of memory. For only $45 it seems like a good deal to us.
The range comprises four systems measuring 5 x 5 x 5 cm and are built around Freescale i.MX6 system on chip architecture with ARM Cortex A9 CPU options. The system can be paired up with XBMC Media Center for a perfect, out of sight media system to play movies direct to a television.
At the low end of the scale is the CuBox-i1 with a single core 1GHZ processor, Vivante GC880 3D graphics with support for OpenGL and ES 1.1 and 2.0. There is no internal storage, but it can accept a microSD card for storage and OS duties. You can run either Android 4.2.2. or a Linux distro.
All of the devices have HDMI 1.4 output, two USB 2.0 ports an 10/100 Mbps ethernet ports. WiFi and Bluetooth are optional – costing $15 extra.
The top model is called the CuBox i4Pro, priced at $119.99. This system features a Quad core 1ghz processor, Vivante GC2000 3D graphics and 2GB of DDR3 memory. The OS is still run from a MicroSD card, however it also has a eSATA II 3Gbps interface to hook up external hard drives. This model also has GB ethernet and 802.11n Wifi and Bluetooth.
You can pre-order them now and they are due to ship end of November. You can get more information over here.
