Argos is jumping on the tablet band wagon too

Earlier this month the supermarket Tesco jumped into the tablet arena with it's budget Android device. At the time I was hopeful that this wouldn't become a trend between UK shops but it seems that Argos is continuing the trend with it's own £99 Android touchscreen device.

As far as specs go, the Argos ‘MyTablet' will run vanilla Android 4.2.2 powered by a 1.6 GHz dual core CPU. The screen will have a lower resolution of 1024×600 compared to the Hudl's 1440×900 screen but the biggest cut back here comes in the storage department, with just 8GB's to work with. Unfortunately this means you'll have to stick to truly mobile games like Fruit Ninja or Angry birds as the bigger games like NOVA 3 can take up more than 1GB on it's own. That said, this tablet looks like it's aimed as a cheap present for the kids rather than the hardcore gamer or tech enthusiast.

John Walden, managing director of Argos gave this statement: “Millions of people have bought tablets during the last year but there is still around 75 per cent of the UK population without one. We know that tablets will feature heavily on Christmas lists this year, at just £99.99 the Argos MyTablet is highly competitive with a great specification, and fits neatly in the range of tablets we have on offer.”

MyTablet will come with BBC Iplayer, Angry Birds, Facebook and Twitter pre installed, It also has access to the Play Store so there will be no shortage of apps, movies or books available to buyers.

KitGuru Says: The Argos tablet falls short of the £20 more expensive Hudl on the spec sheet but i'm not convinced that it's going to make much of a difference to the audience this device is aimed at. I wish more companies would aim at making more high end devices because right now there's a lot of options sub £200 and not a whole lot out there for the people who want to buy the best. What do you guys think of this new budget tablet craze?
