Epic’s Fortnite has a newly renamed developer

It's been a long time since we heard anything about Epic Game's scavenging, base building, defence title Fortnite, but now that's it's surfaced again to grab a breath of foetid air, the news isn't particularly exciting. We now know there's another developer working on it and that that developer has been renamed. Hurray?

The dev in question is People Can Fly, the one behind Bulletstorm and several Gears of War extras, like the PC port of the original and some additional features on number two. Well it's now working on Fortnite, or at least most of it is, as some of People Can Fly staff, including the original founders, moved on to greener pastures some time ago, but whoever's left is now helping out on Fortnite.

They're doing it under a new banner though, as no longer is it known as People Can Fly, but instead, as Epic Games Poland, which is certainly more accurate, even if it is a far duller title.

This was one of the last bits of media we had on the game

“We’ve changed the studio’s name from People Can Fly to Epic Games Poland,” said Epic in a statement to PixeEnemy. “We’re a global company with talented people working toward one goal across the world. We think this helps better reflect that.”

It joins several other Epic studios – including the main one – that are working on Fortnite, which has been quiet for some time. While the official website and Facebook are practically silent, the game's Twitter account has been a little more active, letting us know that the closed alpha began in September and that 500 people got to try the game at PAX.

This suggests that we may well see the game released in early 2014, though it seems unlikely that it will hit its rough 2013 launch date.

KitGuru Says: I'm still excited about Fortnite, even if it has been a long time since we saw the original trailer. What about you guys?
