DayZ standalone appears in Steam database

Just before the world was beginning to tire of Zombie games and movies, Dean Hall has finally managed to get an early access version of DayZ onto Steam. It's not quite ready for play yet, but it will be soon, as the game has now appeared in the Steam database.

This will be good news for fans of the game, or people like myself who have been waiting for a full release before jumping on the band wagon. Initially slated for an early 2012 release, the popular ARMA II mod has taken much longer than expected due to issues with similar games – the then called, War Z – and the project expanding during development to make what Hall described as “the game we all dreamed it could be.”

Joystiq poked Rocket for a comment. Though he wouldn't be drawn too much on how the game was progressing, he did say that it was coming along well and that he was impressed at how fast people found out about the early access entry.

As I'd stated on my twitter when I announced my break from social media/updates, we are on the final lap. Part of the final process involves the actual administration of the release, which is actually surprisingly complex and time-consuming,” he said. “Amazing how quickly the internet picks up on things isn't it.”

While Mr Hall might be surprised at how fast this was picked up on, it did at least take the internet a day to notice. The database entry appeared on the 22nd and we're only talking about it today. Granted that's a few hours behind the earliest of birds over at the Escapist, but it shows zombie fans aren't godlike quick.

KitGuru Says: Maybe Vampiricly quick? Or at least DayZ zombie quick.
