Asus launches GTX 780 Ti

Following on from AMD's recent release of the impressive R9 290x, Nvidia has hit back with the unveiling of its newest performance crown taker, the GTX 780 Ti. Packing in 25 per cent more CUDA cores than the base 780, impressive clock speeds and a price tag that's almost half of what you'd have spent on a Titan until recently, it's lining up to be the card of choice this Christmas for deep pocket upgraders.

Available now at most good retailers and etailers for around £600 (inc. VAT) it's a pretty expensive GPU, certainly only for those that need the absolute best of the best. It's not necessarily a worthy upgrade for those of you with a Titan GPU, but this 780 Ti can outperform the monster for several hundred pounds less, making it a very worthwhile purchase when you're looking at the top end.

It even beat out the impressive R9 290X cards we reviewed recently. Check out the 780 Ti ruling the roost in Batman Arkham Origins here. That's an average of 50 FPS at 4k resolution on a single GPU.

But what does this Asus card offer that the others don't? It does bundle Asus' GPU tweak utility, which should make it easier for you to squeeze a few extra frames per second from your new purchase. With it you have very fine control of GPU and memory clocks, but most importantly for those of you that are a little bit more adept at overclocking, voltages too.

For those of you that want to show your mates or the world how it's done, you can even use GPU Tweak to live-stream your efforts to the web in real time.

The card's specifications are as follows:

  • NVIDIA GeForce® GTX™ 780 Ti
  • PCI Express® 3.0
  • OpenGL® 4.4
  • 3072MB GDDR5 memory
  • 928MHz core speed (boosted)
  • 2880 CUDA cores (stream processors)
  • 7000MHz (1750MHz GDDR5) memory clock
  • DVI-/DVI-D output
  • HDMI output
  • DisplayPort output

KitGuru Says: This one's a bit expensive for my tastes, but then I've been rocking a 5850 for the past three years. It's probably time I dropped a couple hundred on a new GPU. Time to give Zardon a poke and see what he recommends.
