Logitech release PowerShell Controller for iPhone

Over the last couple of years iOS has proven a very popular gaming platform for many people. Games are now the most popular category on the App Store accounting for 175,000 of the 975,000 apps currently available.

Logitech have released a new controller to take advantage of those games that would benefit from a ‘conventional' physical controller, rather than touchscreen. The PowerShell controller is a case/dock that holds the iPhone, connecting via the Lightning port. The non wireless way of connecting also helps to improve battery life.

The new gamepad features a soft rubber surface to hold it comfortably and adds an analog D-Pad, shoulder triggers and a four button array, similar to an Xbox controller. It can connect to an iPhone 5, 5S or a 5th generation iPod touch running iOS7.

Inside is a hefty 1,500mAh battery to help ensure it will work for many hours without a recharge. Cleverly, both iPhone and PowerShell batteries can be charged without having to remove the Apple device from the controller. The case has also been designed to ensure that it won't cover any buttons or the camera on the rear. It includes a 3.5 mm headphone adapter.

The controller measures 200 x 63 x 21 mm and weighs 120g. It is compatible with the iOS7 game controller compatible framework supported by leading games such as Galaxy On Fire2 , Bastion and Limbo.

It will be released in the middle of December, just before the holiday break and pre-order pricing is listed at $99.99 US.

Kitguru says: If you take your iOS gaming seriously, then it looks to be a well designed controller.
