The Samsung HDD division was purchased by Seagate back in 2011 and they have developed the world's thinnest 2TB hard drive. The Samsung Spinpoint M9T ships in a 2.5 inch form factor and measures just 9.5mm thick. Ideal for power users who have a full sized slot in their laptop.
It is worth pointing out that this drive isn't quite as thin as the Seagate Momentus Thin and other 7mm 2.5 inch drives, however they are limited to 500GB sizes. Most of the 2TB 2.5 inch drives are 15mm thick, so this is quite a step forward by Seagate.
The drive is SATA 6 Gb/s and the technical specs point out to a 12 ms average seek time with a maximum data transfer of 600 MB/s – although in real world terms this is likely to be closer to 100 MB/s. A 1.5TB version is also available.
You can read more on the drive, over here at the official SeaGate site.
Kitguru says: Ideal for a power user on the move.
Time for Seagate or other NAS players to create a NAS or DAS that uses two or more of these drives plus a 128GB SSD to make a small yet killer performance NAS/DAS unit. Such drives would be idea companion for laptops and desktops in the modern era of SSDs in order to maintain data longevity and reliability. A good way to make a slim enclosure is using mSata SSD slot and twin 2.5inch bays and some 4GB RAM in a NAS!.
does anyone know where you can buy these HDD yet
