Nintendo fans rejoice, you may get another Super Mario Galaxy game after all. During an ‘Iwata Asks' Q&A the current development team, who is at the moment working on Mario 3D land, talked about the possibility of taking Mario back to space.
During the interview, Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto pointed out that just because the development team had moved on to Mario 3D Land and were pursuing new Mario games doesn't mean that they won't make a return to the Galaxy series:
“Just so there is no misunderstanding, I should point out that this doesn't mean we'll never make another Super Mario Galaxy game,” said Miyamoto. “The same team can't make both at the same time. And we can't bring in a second party and slap the name Super Mario Galaxy on it. I suppose we could idealistically make both in Tokyo, but we want to do something new too, so there was that dilemma.”
In the same interview, producer Yoshiaki Koizumi, mentioned that while developing Mario 3D Land they wanted to take inspiration from the galaxy games:
“When we first started making Super Mario 3D World, Miyamoto-san asked me if this was going to be more like Super Mario Galaxy or more like Super Mario 3D Land. When we made Super Mario 3D Land, we had our eyes on the form of this game, so we made it this way without any hesitation.”
So there isn't a new Galaxy game in the works yet but at least it's clear that the team behind it are open to making a new one.
Kitguru Says: Super Mario Galaxy was one of the better Mario games to come out in recent memory, that along with Super Mario Sunshine – which I know is quite old. Would you guys like to see a new Mario Galaxy game?
