EA may have shuttered its purpose built CnC studio, Victory Games (RIP), but that doesn't mean the game it spent three years working on is done for. According to a support document unearthed by the boys over at IGN, Command and Conquer (Generals 2) may still see the light of day.
During the alpha for Command and Conquer, gamers were encouraged to spend money on in-game generals and factions through micro-transactions. However with the game now shut down in its present form and no word on future developments, EA popped up a help page discussing refunds.
“Over the next 10 days we will be refunding any and all money spent in the alpha. If, after November 8, 2013, you still have not received refunds for your purchases, you should contact a game advisor and we will be happy to assist you.”
My bet is these tanks were build by the laser general
That was all well and good, but it's the next few sentences that are giving Generals fans a glimmer of hope:
“For those of you who bought The C&C Ultimate Collection, your early access to the beta will be honoured once production of this title resumes under a new studio. We would like to thank you for your time and interest in Command & Conquer, and we look forward to sharing the news with you when production resumes on this title in the future.”
So it sounds like Generals 2/Command and Conquer will resume development at some point, though in what guise and with whom we have no idea at this point.
KitGuru Says: I was pretty bummed when this got canned in late October. I'm a massive Generals fan, having played the original and its expansion for years amassing thousands of online games. I never got very good, but I was looking forward to seeing how the GLA's awesome racism was progressing in the new one. Hopefully one day me and the other few people that liked that game will get a chance to play a sequel.
It’s a shame this was pulled out of production I was really looking forward to the full release. Hopefully it will be back in production sooner rather than later.
