Windows phone has been lagging behind a bit when it comes to app availability on the platform but we could see a turn around as Joe Belfiore, the Vice President and Manager for Windows Phone Program Management, turned to Twitter to let it be known that the 3rd ecosystem is finally arriving:
I guess having Instagram is some sort of right of passage in the mobile OS world.
Windows phone could have been considered the 3rd ecosystem anyway considering it had already beat out other platforms. That said, it still holds a relatively low market share in comparison to IOS and Android. A boosted app store will certainly help sway buyers – Windows phones aren't bad there just isn't much you can do with them.
Hopefully this works out because more apps doesn't have to mean more customers, if the customers don't flock over then developers are less likely to make apps for the platform and then Microsoft will have to go back to the drawing board with its mobile OS.
Kitguru Says: I know some people who recently jumped over to Windows Phone. The actual handsets are quite nice and the range of colours is something Android and IOS both lack, although that has changed a bit recently. Maybe a new wave of apps will make the devices more appealing and interesting to consumers.
