HTC is on the ball with the latest Android update, the phone maker has just announced its plans to roll out the KitKat update to the HTC One in late January. When Google releases the latest version of Android, non Nexus buyers usually have to wait a lot longer to get their hands on an official update so hopefully this is a sign that things might start to change.
The announcement came down the pipeline from HTC's UK Twitter account: “We're working with our local carriers to begin the rollout of Android 4.4 and Sense 5.5 for the #HTCOne from end of January 2014,”
Android 4.4 launched on the Nexus 5 at the very end of October, since then Android fans have been wondering when they'll get the update. The roll out to Nexus devices went pretty slowly this time around as the Nexus 4 has only just started getting the update about 3 weeks after launch, so HTC having its skinned version of the update ready around 2 months later is pretty fast.
President of HTC America, Jason McKenzie, also took the time to state that they will not be lazy on future updates either: “We’re not going to roll out updates in a lazy fashion, We’re going to make it a priority to have every dot release out on the One within 90 days.”
Here at Kitguru, we loved the HTC One- We even gave it a pretty good review.
Kitguru Says: Samsung, take notes- these guys have got it right.
