Don’t panic if your PSN account won’t login today

If you've woken up this morning and found that you can't access your PSN account (because why would you have something other than playing games to do on a Thursday?) because your login details aren't correct, don't panic. Chances are Sony just reset your password and didn't tell you about it.

A number of users over on the official PlayStation forum have been complaining that they haven't been able to access their accounts, leading some to believe they were hacked and others to become hacked off, annoyed that their new PS4, or their Vita isn't letting them get a game in.

But Sony has such a good track record of… oh wait, no it doesn't

After a handful of posters voiced their concerns, a helpful Sony rep suggested they just reset their password using the normal tool and all would be well. When pressed on why they'd need to do this, he explained: “We monitor PSN account for any irregular activity. If such activity is detected we will sometimes reset passwords. This was done purely as precautionary measure and there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised.”

He also suggested that he couldn't go into any more detail, because it would compromise the security at PlayStation. So presumably there was some change at its end which meant certain passwords may have become vulnerable somehow.

If you find that your account is working quite right this morning, try the reset tool yourself, but if that doesn't work, just get in touch with PlayStation support and they'll sort you out.

Kitguru Says: What is odd, is that despite Sony resetting people's passwords and not telling them, why didn't those people get an email telling them what the newly reset password was? It's essentially been reset twice by the time they sort it out. [Cheers Eurogamer]
