Warhammer 40,000 Storm of Vengeance is a 40k MOBA

There's quite a few Games Workshop properties in the works at the moment, ending a somewhat scattered drought of games from the longtime tabletop game maker. Alongside the sequel to Bloodbowl, there's a new turn based strategy called Space Wolf and now it looks like there'll be a MOBA too, known as Storm of Vengeance.

Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe (for the uninitiated and unimaginative, that's around 38,000 years into the future) with all of its grim-dark, the game will charge players with defending a planet from invasion with 100 Dark Angel Space Marines. This is somewhat different to the traditional single hero per player MOBA, though it must have elements of that gameplay, since the CEO of developer Eutechnyx described the game as a “lane strategy,” title.

Perhaps with its defence set up, we're looking at a mashup of both traditional lane based MOBA gameplay, with a horde mode. That would certainly be an interesting gameplay idea as it brings together two of the most popular multiplayer modes of the past few years. However, it's not clear from this early release (via Develop) whether both sides of the game will be playable, or if gamers will only be able to play on the side of the Space Marines. It's also not known what their foes will be.

Storm of Vengeance is currently in development for both PC and mobile platforms, suggesting it's probably being made with the Unity engine. Presumably the versions will need to be somewhat different than one another however, especially in terms of user interface.

Storm of Vengeance is set to be available in the second quarter of 2014.

KitGuru Says: This sounds interesting, though Games Workshop has a history of pushing iOS only support on its apps. Here's hoping Eutechnyx helps it see sense and makes sure to create an Android version too.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
