$99 Wii Mini heading for US release

Nintendo announced a while ago that they were stopping all production of their original Wii console – wanting to place their focus entirely on the Wii U, which hasn't been the sales success the company would have wanted. They are now saying that the Wii Mini, originally for the Canadian market, is now heading to US shores.

The idea is to offer gamers a cheap console alternative, at only $99. In America the Playstation 4 will cost $400, the Xbox One $500 and the Wii U $300. Nintendo sweeten the Wii Mini deal by giving away Mario Kart Wii with every console they sell, meaning gamers aren't immediately forced to buy a game to use the console.

The Wii Mini does have some limitations – it will not allow, for instance allow the gamer to connect to the internet. Nintendo say “While Wii mini is not compatible with the Internet and will not allow online functionality when playing games, select multiplayer games can still be played locally with friends and families, which is the ideal way to enjoy such entertaining games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.”

Kitguru says: The console should be available to American gamers by November 17th and it will be interesting to see how it fares as the launch for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One is around the same time.
