Spotify to offer free unlimited desktop streaming once again

Spotify has been around for a few years now and like with any service, it's been through some changes in its time. If you were around right at the start you will have enjoyed free and unlimited music streaming with ads, almost as if you were listening to your perfect radio station, but one day the company decided to put a few restrictions in place which included a monthly song cap and a limit on how many times you could listen to the same song. If you've found the restrictions a little hard to deal with then you're in luck as Spotify's Communications Manager, Diego Planas Rego, has announced that the caps are now gone:

“In the past, we had to restrict your listening time to some hours a month once a six-month unlimited grace period had passed. But now, if you haven’t noticed, there’s no more time limit if you are using Spotify for free. We have removed these caps completely across all platforms – you can listen to your favourite songs as many times as you like, for as long as you want.”

This move comes shortly after Spotify made it free to use the service on mobile devices with just one catch, you can only play songs on shuffle, which isn't so bad if you don't over saturate your playlist. So what are subscribers paying for now? Well you're paying for the lack of ads as well as the offline mode, which allows you to store songs on your device for 30 days at a time.

KitGuru Says: This is certainly a good move for the consumers but Spotify's subscription numbers will probably take a hit.
