Laptops from Samsung Electronics are stylish, well-built and innovative. However, they are not as popular on the market as notebooks from manufacturers like Asustek Computer. A new media report claims that after Samsung failed to meet its own notebook shipments goal in 2013, the firm further cut sales targets for this year.
Samsung planned to ship 17 million notebooks in 2013, but actually sold only 12 million units, reports DigiTimes web-site. For this year, Samsung set up the target to ship seven million of laptops. The reasons why the company decided to reduce shipments of notebooks are not completely clear since the reduction is much higher compared to contractions of the PC market itself.
It is also reported that Samsung will also “no longer launch conventional notebook models except Chromebooks in 2015”, which probably means that the company intends to focus only on expensive models and has no plans to offer affordable laptops.
Samsung did not comment on the news-story.
