The Game Awards 2023 officially announced

Over the past many years, The Game Awards has risen to become one of the premiere annual gaming events, with the Geoff Keighley-led ceremony blending new announcements alongside a celebration of the past 12 months in gaming. Unsurprisingly, The Game Awards will be returning this year, set to go live on the 7th of December.

Making the announcement on Twitter, The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley published an image confirming that 2023’s edition of The Game Awards will take place on the 7th of December – almost exactly one year following last year’s ceremony.

Initially started as a relatively modest affair, The Game Awards has managed to grow larger and more impressive with each iteration – both in terms of the games announced as well as the show’s total viewership.

Since its first event back in 2014, The Game Awards has seen total viewership increase year-on-year, with the first show amassing a total audience of 1.9 million – and 2022’s show seeing over 100 million viewers.

With 2023 arguably being one of the best years for games in recent memory, the 2023 Game Awards will certainly have a lot to celebrate – and hopefully a lot to announce.

All that said, considering the fact that recent Keighley-led shows have suffered from an unfortunate number of gate-crashers who have managed to sneak up onto the stage during pivotal moments, hopefully security for this year’s event will be increased.
