Hotline Miami series seemingly getting current-gen ports

The Hotline Miami series resonated with a great deal of fans when it released over a decade ago, merging fast-paced top-down shooting with puzzle-like mechanics and layouts alongside a hardcore 1-hit-kill/death system to make for a highly replayable and addictive “1 more try” type of experience. With it having been almost 10 years since the last entry, it seems as though publisher Devolver Digital is set to bring the duology to current-gen systems.

As reported by Gematsu, the trophy/achievement tracking site Exophase recently published a new listing for trophies pertaining to both Hotline Miami and its sequel for the PlayStation 5 – suggesting that the series will soon be ported to current-gen systems.

Considering the fact that Hotline Miami is top-down pixel art experience which is already available on modern systems through backwards compatibility, it initially seems to make little sense as to why these games are being remastered for the current-gen.

That said, these titles would certainly benefit from being pushed beyond 60fps due to their precise and fast-paced nature. Additionally, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller in particular could receive a suite of neat features including haptic support when shooting, breaking down doors and perhaps even syncing up with both games’ excellent and boppy soundtracks.

While certainly not a top priority when it comes to last-gen titles which need a current-gen remaster, a PS5 version of Hotline Miami and its sequel could elevate these already-excellent games just that little bit further.
