Lian Li is also suing Thermaltake over daisy-chain RGB fan design

This week, it came to light that Lian Li filed a lawsuit against Phanteks over the design of its D30 fans. Lian Li alleges that Phanteks' daisy-chain fan design infringes on one of its patents. Phanteks isn't the only one facing this claim, as Lian Li is also suing Thermaltake. 

Lian Li filed its lawsuit against Phanteks on the 8th of September. As shown by the Justica record of the filings, Lian Li also filed a lawsuit against Thermaltake on that same date.

Thermaltake and Lian Li have not yet commented publicly on the lawsuit filing yet but the situation appears to be similar to the one between Lian Li and Phanteks. Thermaltake has its own line of daisy-chainable RGB case fans, the SWAFAN EX series. The SWAFAN magnetically connects fans together and allows them to be powered through a single cable.

Lian Li obtained the patent for an “illumination fan connectable with at least one illumination fan for a computer” back in 2020. The patent also details the design, in which an RGB fan has a power socket and a connector on one side of the body, which can connect to a second connector on the other side of the body, allowing RGB fans to be daisy chained.

KitGuru Says: Patent infringement cases can drag on, so it could be a while before we see any resolution here. In the meantime, it doesn't look like Thermaltake or Phanteks have responded with their own legal filings in the case just yet.
