Walmart may have pegged Q4 2014 for new Zelda

It's been somewhat obvious that Nintendo has had a new Zelda game in the works for a while now, with the tech demo we saw in 2012 and of course Nintendo's own comments that a new Zelda game would probably be released within a couple of years, but we haven't heard anything concrete. While this latest news is anything but official, when a retailer like Walmart lists a game from an established franchise that we haven't seen before, it's worth taking note of.

Towards the end of last week, Walmart's online shop listed an RPG title for the Wii U, with the name “Zelda 2.” Presumably this is because it's technically the second Zelda title on the platform, but perhaps it could theoretically be a sequel to the original game? The Zelda timeline is so messed up it probably wouldn't matter.

Currently the Walmart listing is allowing pre-orders, though at $99.96 anyone wanting to get one of the first copies of the new game, whatever it is, will be paying a premium for it. Chances are this is just a placeholder pricing of course and won't accurately reflect the final cost.

Funnily enough, at the time of writing the listing does appear to be down as part of Walmart scheduled maintenance. It will be interesting to see if it comes back up when the maintenance is over, or if Nintendo will have made the retailer pull it.

Expect more news about the upcoming game at a show like E3 later this year.
