Striking Distance Studios is a relatively new team which was founded back in 2019 by Glen Schofield of Dead Space fame. Following the launch of their debut title ‘The Callisto Protocol’ late last year, the studio seems to have run into some issues – with its founder now having officially departed from the studio.
As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Striking Distance Studios’ CEO and founder Glen Schofield is leaving the studio, with publisher Krafton confirming that he has “decided to pursue new opportunities.”
This is not the only major departure however, with Striking Distance's chief operating officer and chief financial officer also said to be parting ways. While no concrete details were shared regarding exactly why this shake-up has occurred, the Krafton representative claimed that these 3 departures were all voluntary – suggesting that it may not have had to do with The Callisto Protocol’s performance.
In recent years we have seen a number of industry veterans leave AAA studios in order to start up their own teams, Unfortunately, not all of them have seemed to work out with one other notable example being Jason Blundell’s departure from Deviation Games before they had even shipped a single title.
The Callisto Protocol received some criticism upon its launch in December of last year, though many still enjoyed it. With Schofield’s departure coming in the wake of a bunch of lay-offs last month, it will be interesting to see what Striking Distance Studios and Glen Schofield have planned for their respective futures.
