Xbox Live to get new reputation system

Xbox Live is set to get a revamped reputation system that will separate the trolls and the cheaters from the regular gamers. This new system will inform players when they are playing with someone who has built up a bad reputation and will single out those deemed disruptive by the Xbox Live community.

The new rep system will separate players in to three main categories: Good players will have a dark green rep bar, Players who need work will be identified by either a light green bar or an orange bar and finally, the bad players will have a red rep bar and will have ‘Avoid Me' written on their gamer cards.

The Xbox Wire blog noted that some users will start receiving notifications, letting them know that they need to work on their reputation: “Beginning this month, some players will start receiving reputation warnings as their reputations drop due to feedback from the community. The purpose of these communications is to remind players about their effect on the community and encourage them to have more positive interactions. These warnings are based on community feedback collected since Xbox One launched.”

The blog also explained that people with an ‘Avoid Me' rating will have reduced matchmaking pairings and Twitch Broadcasts will be hindered: “If players do not heed warnings and continue to have a negative impact on other players and the Xbox Live community, they will begin to experience penalties. For example, people with an “Avoid Me” rating will have reduced matchmaking pairings and may be unable to use certain privileges such as Twitch broadcasting.”

KitGuru Says: The new reputation system actually disciplines the bad players, which is a nice touch and should help solve some of  the issues with the Xbox Live community. However, Microsoft will have to make sure that its report system can't be abused in order for this to work effectively.
