Capcom says it would ‘gracefully decline’ a buyout offer from Microsoft

Microsoft has worked closely with Capcom many times over the years. From the original Dead Rising games to bringing newer titles like Devil May Cry 5 and Monster Hunter Rise to Xbox Game Pass. With Microsoft being in acquisition mode at the moment, the company has been tied to many potential deals but Capcom says it is not interested in selling.

If Microsoft were to approach Capcom with an offer, it would seem that they won't be accepting it. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Capcom Chief Operating Officer, Haruhiro Tsujimoto said that he would “gracefully decline the offer”, preferring to deal with Microsoft as equal partners.

Moving forward, Capcom also has its eyes on the mobile market and has been actively working with Apple to shore up its game support for Mac and iOS. The new iPhone 15 Pro and M2-powered Macs and iPads will soon be able to play some Capcom titles, including Resident Evil Village, all natively without cloud streaming.

As far as Capcom's own acquisition plans go, the publisher is currently focusing on organically growing its studios and franchises, rather than buying up additional talent and IP.

KitGuru Says: Given how difficult the Activision Blizzard acquisition has been to push through for Microsoft, I think they'll be wary when it comes to buying up additional major publishers. I don't think there is a world where Microsoft ends up owning Valve, Nintendo or a smaller publisher like Capcom without regulators stepping in, especially now that the Activision Blizzard deal is indeed set to go through.
