Apple VS Samsung patent case gets a verdict

The Apple VS Samsung patent cases seen to never end but after a lot of stalling and several appeals, the court has finally given its verdict on the second patent case and neither company really wins. Apple was suing Samsung for a hefty $2.2 billion over some of its pre-Galaxy S3 handsets, Samsung was in turn suing Apple for $6.2 million over some of its own patents but neither company got anywhere near that amount of money it was hoping for.

Apple owes Samsung $158,400 while Samsung owes much more than that, the Korean company owes $119,625,000 to Apple. The Californian based iPhone maker had in fact infringed on one of Samsung's patents while the company behind the Galaxy brand had infringed on three of Apple's patents.

The court found that the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Stratosphere all infringed on one of Apple's patents for a technology that allows an in-app link to open other apps, something that pretty much all smartphones these days can do.

The court had also found that Apple was guilty of infringing on a Samsung patent pertaining to camera and photo organization technology. Both company's were trying to sue the other for a lot more and by the end of the case, the fuss doesn't really seem all that worth it.

KitGuru Says: This verdict closes the second patent case between the two companies, lets hope that they don't open up a third case and continue to drag this out. How many lawsuits will it take before the patent system is reformed?
