Star Citizen funding continues to grow- hits $43 million

Star Citizen seems to be hitting new funding milestones so often that it can be hard to keep up, the upcoming space simulator has now raised $43 million in funding despite having only just hit the $42 million milestone two weeks ago.

Chris Roberts announced the milestone in a blog post titled, “Letter from the Chairman: $43 Million.”: “Another incredible accomplishment by Star Citizen's backers.” The post goes on to re-iterate what was promised at the $42 million mark:

“I’d like to begin today’s letter by showing you where one of our previous stretch goals is going. At $42 million, we unlocked the Gladius light fighter for Squadron 42. The team at Foundry 42 has been working on the ship and I’m pleased to show you some of the earlyWIP today! The Gladius is intended to be an older fighter that doesn’t have the arms and armor of a Hornet… but that can maneuver and strike quickly.”

Now we get on to the new stuff, what will all current backers get now that the game has reached $43 million? “Every backer (to this point) gets a set of marine combat armour added to their accounts!”

Roberts delivered a description of the armour which also sheds some light on the game's lore: “Clark Defense Systems’ ORC armor is created of composite mesh of fibers reinforced with ablative plates, offering a modest protection against both energy and kinetic weapons. While it doesn’t offer the same protection of the Marines’ proprietary Nail-armor or their SpecOps variants, ORCmk9 armor is a baseline solution for any number of situations the average Marine will encounter on any given day.”

Star Citizen is growing all of the time so it will undoubtedly reach $45 million soon and when the game gets there, players are promised a mystery mission involving a “Hadesian Artifact”, which players will have to compete to solve.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. I backed shortly before they reached 8 million. I’ve been following closely ever since, and I seriously am the most excited about this game than even the original X-wing 95 on my old Dell. A lot of people are still calling Vaporware, but when the Dogfight module releases, they’ll be singing its praises. Yeah, there’s going to be bugs; it’s an Alpha. But this alpha footage already looks amazing, and the fact that it’s a playable module with leaderboards, multiple game modes and fully simulated Newtonian physics is icing on the cake. But it’s really, really good icing. 😀
