Google Glass banned from UK Cinemas

Shortly after the release of Google Glass in the UK, The Cinema Exhibitors Association has banned the smart glasses from UK cinemas. The CEA represents most big chain cinemas in the country and is worried that bootleggers will use the device to illegally distribute movies, despite its 30 minutes to 45 minute recording limit.

Customers will now see the following warning:

“As a courtesy to your fellow audience members, and to prevent film theft, we ask that customers do not enter any cinema auditorium using any ‘wearable technology' capable of recording images. Any customer found wearing such technology will be asked to remove it and may be asked to leave the cinema.”

Phil Clapp, the CEA's Chief Executive, told The Register: “The UK cinema industry position on wearable technology capable of recording images is that customers are requested not to wear these into cinema auditorium, regardless of whether the film is playing or not.”

“While our position on mobile phones is that we ask people to put these away when the film is playing, with wearable technology – whether Google Glass or otherwise – we believe that it is generally more difficult to detect when they are and are not recording, so our approach is a precautionary one.”

KitGuru Says: Drivers had already been banned from wearing Google Glass before it arrived here. This seems like a reasonable precaution, although Google Glass doesn't actually have enough memory to film an entire movie so it seems a little unnecessary. What do  you guys think of this?
