Alan Wake II is one of the most anticipated games of the year, with Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming survival horror title recently seeing previews go live from a bunch of different outlets. Said previews have all been pretty positive, and so to add to the good news, Remedy Entertainment confirmed that Alan Wake II will include a performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Making the announcement on Twitter, Thomas Puba – the communications director for Remedy Entertainment – said “I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game has been built from the beginning as a 30fps experience focusing on visuals and ambiance, but somehow we have managed to include a solid Performance mode. We’ll talk details later.”
Currently, it is unknown whether this performance mode will offer a consistent 60fps experience or if it will simply unlock the framerate cap, allowing it to potentially reach 60fps. According to Puba, Remedy is “still tweaking that” so we will have to wait and see.
As mentioned by the dev, Alan Wake II has been designed to be a 30fps experience on consoles, and so it will be interesting to see what cutbacks are made in order to facilitate the extra frames.
At the very least, we know that the Series S will not feature such a mode, presumably due to it requiring too much compromise. Either way, it is good to see that the PS5 and Series X are getting an optional performance mode. Whether it ends up being good or not, we will have to wait to find out.
