Sony’s PlayStation Portal has sold out in just two days

Sony’s PlayStation Portal handheld is an interesting device which uses the company’s Remote Play service in order to stream titles from your home console to the portable peripheral. Despite requiring a constant internet connection, it seems as though there is a great deal of interest for some sort of handheld PlayStation console as the system has already sold out in just two days.

As reported by Eurogamer, in going to the PlayStation Portal page via PSDirect, the handheld device is currently listed as unavailable in both the US and UK – with the former stating that more stock should be available in ‘Early December’ and the latter having new units slightly sooner, starting from the 22nd of November.

While we do not have any concrete sales figures, the fact that the system sold out so quickly in two of its primary launch markets suggests that the Remote Play device has a bigger audience than Sony perhaps had anticipated.

Additionally, with reports claiming that the device will also support cloud streaming in the future, it is very possible that Sony might have a small hit on their hands with the PlayStation Portal. While certainly not for everyone, the handheld seems to have found its audience.
