The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), set up late last year to help the authorities in the UK tackle online piracy and file sharing, has hailed its efforts over the past nine months as impactful, stating that with the help of media lobby group FACT (the British arm of the MPAA), it's managed to suspend over 2,359 domain names, seen warrants served on 15 site owners and shut down the ability for as many as 19 other sites to process payments.
We all know there's only one thing that can take down a real pirate
FACT has been busy on its own too, claiming to have shut down some 117 pirate websites and even suggests it had a hand in the arrest of as many as seven members of release groups, the piracy collectives that rush content online as soon as it's aired. As TorrentFreak points out though, the language suggests that some of the investigations on these individuals are still ongoing.
FACT was also proud of the fact that it's had 10 different websites blocked by ISPs after having the high court deal out orders for them.

KitGuru Says: Surely then this has has an impact on torrent site users and pirates across the UK? If you're a user of these sorts of sites, we'd love to hear from you. With all the goings on from FACT and PIPCU, have you found it harder to find the content you want to watch?
If you’re an experienced PC user in general, it’s just as easy to torrent everything as it was before all the blocks and bans.
It’s been proved time and time again that piracy has little impact on sales and in some cases benefits from it. As far as site take downs etc etc just like actual protection on the software itself if ic can be done it can be undone. The money would be better spent on curing the root cause rather than effect. Make digital copies available easily and more importantly cheaply!. I have been pirating stuff since the days of the spectrum and tape to tape cassette decks at school lunchtime yet i still have 100+ Blurays 300+ DVDs and a steam and originals game collection that spans many genres and publishers. All where available to me unoffically but its its a decent product then ill spend the money.
These guys are idiots .. when you play with people who are apt enough to share things on the information superhighway right under peoples noses for years, they will obviously figure out loopholes and flaws in anti-piracy (greedy cunt) campaigns
Yer, cos they have made it sooooo difficult to download photocopied tv shows, movies and music that it is a struggle to find anything. It takes at least 3 seconds now #fightingalosingbattle
They only show statistics how many sites they closed down.effect??none..i download stuff too..its more convenient have it on hdd to watch it when i feel like it than going through 100s of bluerays n dvds..yes i buy them too.i support good product plus i like to watch bonus material but many times are issues with hdcp protocol on pc so i watch all that illegal content from my hdd while my legal bluray wont play.nothing wrong with downloading if u not making profit out of it..many times i bought disc basef on reviews on the back side of them n they sucked..now am only buying discs of films i have seen before.all they do is wasting money n restricting us with more useless rules n laws..
At first it was a nuisance as I had to research for about 40 seconds the best way to bypass it. It now adds about 5-10 seconds onto my downloading time each day now.
No real change though to be honest as I can still easily access and acquire any content I could access before, If anything it’s easier now as I use alternatives to torrents to acquire everything for me.
ISP’s are simply only blocking torrent sites for people on the main big networks, go over to another ISP that based in your area and problem solved, failing that the general level of intelligence of people who torrent have some level of computer knowledge and can easily bypass such silly filters.
Yet more waste of both Police time and public money, it takes them months to get a court order to block a url, by the time it’s gone through another ten have taken it’s place. This ‘war on piracy’ is hopeless, the genie has been out of the bottle over a decade now and all they’re doing it flogging a dead horse. Even with all these new blocks it doesn’t take very long to get around them and tbh the internet is almost impossible to regulate with it’s size and the amount of information available.
