Dota 2 International tournament prize pool hits $10 million

Valve's Dota 2 tournament dubbed as ‘The International', has just seen its prize pool shoot passed $10 million, which is all thanks to the sales of the Compendium. Now Dota 2 players have unlocked the Compendium's 22nd and possibly final milestone, a victory prediction taunt.

Valve began selling the Compendium back in May for $10, $2.50 of which would go in to the tournament's prize pool. The Compendium expanded the prize pool from $600,000 all the way up to $4 million in its first week on sale, since then players have managed to hit all of Valve's target milestone's for owners.

New goals were added once the Compendium passed the $6 million mark so if sales continue to increase then we might see even more perks added in for owners. The grand prize at last year's International championship tournament was $1.4 million but with the hugely expanded prize pool this year you can expect the winning team to receive a lot more.

KitGuru Says: The amount of interest and money this year's Dota 2 tournament has generated really shows how far eSports has come in the last five years. It's pretty crazy to think that it's actually becoming feasible to make a living being a professional gamer. Do any of you guys play Dota 2? I've been dabbling in it a little more recently.

  1. Unreal that they’ve made this amount. I play the game a lot and the support that Valve give this game is amazing.
