This may be too little too late at this point but EA's CEO, Andrew Wilson, has admitted that the company made a lot of mistakes with the “free to play” mobile version of Dungeon Keeper. “You have to delivering value, and always err on the side of delivering more value, not less.”
Dungeon Keeper for Android and iOS was one of the worst cases of a pay to win game that we've seen in a while and all of that was made worse by the fact that Dungeon Keeper is a much loved franchise. However, according to the CEO, the company has learned its lesson. Speaking to Eurogamer, Wilson said:
“For new players, it was kind of a cool game. For people who'd grown up playing Dungeon Keeper there was a disconnect there. We misjudged the economy. In that aspect, we didn't walk that line as well as we could have. And that's a shame.”
“As we look forward, the two lessons we get are, one, where you are dealing with IP that has existed in the past, even though you're reinventing it for a new audience, you have to do your best to stay true to its essence. The second is, when you're thinking about any business model, premium, subscription, free-to-play, value has to exist. Whether it's a dollar, $10, $100 or $1000, you have to delivering value, and always err on the side of delivering more value, not less.”
The Studio that created Dungeon Keeper mobile was shut down in May, the game is still available but its not worth playing.

KitGuru Says: Dungeon Keeper mobile was a bad move. However, I think a lot of the anger from fans could have been avoided if EA announced any plans to release a proper Dungeon Keeper on the PC in the next couple of years. What did you guys think of Dungeon Keeper mobile?

“you have to delivering value..”
wat
I still quite enjoy it, maybe its just a guilty pleasure of mine…
I haven’t for the record paid for anything so anyone that says you can’t play for free is being a bit over dramatical. I know the 5 star rating thing and the price of gems in game, and do agree this was a bad move, specially PR wise, but still….
Instead of paying to play this bullshit mobile version, I’ll just get the first two games for less than the price of one of their “great value” deals. In fact, for the same money, I could buy them both for a couple friends too.
EA, you’re not a games company, you’re a damn joke.
I was so pissed when they made DK into a free-to-play micro transact ruled game, I boycotted it for 3 whole hours before I promised myself I would play, but not buy anything … So far I haven’t bought anything with $’s, and really I just treat it like a ‘My pet dungeon’ level that never ends, If you want to play for free and not spend money, then only spend green gems on Imps, when you have all of them save for the immortals. There aren’t enough available to mine for both, so eventually you’ll need your exclusive raids / achievements to keep gaining green gems for your ‘premium’ immortals.
