Watch Dogs has shipped 8 million units

It looks like Ubisoft's investment in Watch Dogs is paying off as the publisher has confirmed some highly impressive sales figures. While Watch Dogs isn't the fastest or highest selling game in the world, it has managed to shift 8 million units in just six weeks, which is very good- particularly for a new IP.

It should be noted that this is 8 million copies shipped to retailers worldwide rather than to actual consumers. The game became the fastest selling new IP in the UK in June, it also sold 4 million copies in its first week and was Ubisoft's most pre-ordered game ever.

Financially, Ubisoft is doing very well, in total the publisher has made €360 million in sales during its first financial quarter ending on the 30th of June, which is 374 per cent up year-on-year. Digital sales rose by 149 per cent, bringing in  €84 million.

Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, gave the following statement: “Although the financial year has only just started, our confidence for fiscal-year 2014-15 has been reinforced by our first-quarter performance and the keen anticipation for our upcoming games.”

KitGuru Says: Watch Dogs received positive reviews but it didn't quite live up to its E3 hype. There has also been a lot of controversy surrounding the game on PC after it was revealed that the graphics were downgraded. However, these things haven't stopped the game from selling incredibly well as a new IP. What did you guys think of Watch Dogs? Have you played it yet?
