Ubisoft to take PC gaming more seriously

Apparently, Ubisoft finally wants to patch things up with PC gamers and take the platform ‘more seriously'. The change of heart comes down to the fact that PC gaming is continuing to rise, despite the release of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Speaking with MCV at Gamescom, European Ubisoft Executive, Alain Corre, said: “We recognize the importance and needs of PC gamers, and want to continue to improve how we create and support games for PC. As a percentage of our business, PC grew last year, from 11 per cent in 2012/13 to 15 per cent in 2013/14, which is an indication of the progress we’re making.”

We listen to feedback from players and continue to adapt accordingly; for instance, we switched to a simple, one- time activation for our PC games – a standard practice in the industry. We’re also doing our best to bring our games to PC at the same time as the console versions. Assassin’s Creed Unity and Far Cry 4, for example, will be released simultaneously on console and PC, and this will continue to be the goal for all our major titles.”

Finally, we are committed to improving the optimization of our games for each platform on which they’re released – including PC.”

Ubisoft has faced a lot of controversy on the PC platform over the years. The most recent case is Watch Dogs, which received a graphical downgrade in order to achieve parity with the new generation of consoles. In addition, the publisher also claims that the PC version of Far Cry 4 won't look any different on high settings to the console version.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft's reputation amongst PC gamers has been damaged this year. However, it might not be too late. Would you guys like to see Ubisoft put more effort in to its PC games? What would the publisher have to do in order to win gamers over again?

Whether they do anything or not at least they’re aware that the PC gaming market is growing. At least we know they know it is a dominating area in terms of performance and takes bad hits from console ports and I hope other developers follow suit to provide a seperate instance of their games for the PC

  3. Can i get a choir of annoyed gamers yelling ‘bullshit!’ please ?

  4. Better late than never i suppose.

  5. Get rid of the shitty Uplay login every time I want to play a steam game.

  6. ^ This right here. Uplay sucks. Steam all the way.

  7. I doubt anyone from Ubisoft will read this but when they failed to optimize AC3 and AC4 so those of us with very powerful PC’s can take advantage of the raw power of our rigs along with the downgrade farce that is WatchDogs and the utter Bullshit about Far Cry 4 looking the same on PS4/XB1 as it will on PC screams “graphical Downgrade” again, I have a hard time believing anything Ubisoft says abot “taking PC Gaming seriously” no wonder their games are so heavily pirated because nobody wants to pay money for consolized crap.

Only when they drop this visual parity BS to placate the Console Peasants, will I give them any further money, until then they will not get another dime from me period.

  8. Ubisoft need to stop deliberately nerfing the visual quality of their PC games. Many, if not most, PC gamers invest more money in their hardware than console gamers in return for a superior gaming experience… Don’t we deserve to get what we pay for?? Stop deliberately under-developing PC games!

  9. uplay is fine i never had any problems with it ,pc gaming is on the up and the market for games will climb so there is some good to be done in uplay marketing there games ,i think sometimes the underdog will surprise you and give pc gamers the games they are looking for

  10. Ubisoft downgraded FC3, downgraded Watchdogs, gave us an unoptimized AC3 and they were stupid enough to do the same for AC4. I find it REALLY hard do believe that such visuals will be able to be delivered by next gen consoles, let alone be on par with PC, so they’re either bullshitting us or there’s gonna be another downgrade, in which case Ubisoft climbs to the #2 spot of worst game developers, right below EA.

  11. They Have to Patch The Games, which are already in bad state. They won’t be patching up their stuff soon. They hate PC !! End of Story !!

  12. Ubisoft, if you want to be awesome to PC gamers? Do the following:

    1. Get rid of Uplay. Use Steam instead.
    2. Get rid of DRM.

    That is all.

Ubisoft do make some awesome games. Watch Dogs falls into this category, but was tarnished by a poor port and some bad graphical issues before the patch came out. I’m happy to call it a one off and a learning experience for Ubisoft who on the whole do a decent job of things. Looking forward to FarCry 4 🙂

  14. how about they make the games less buggy and actually make them use the hard ware that is necessary for example when i played watch dogs my frames were about 30 but it was only using 30 to 40 % of my Gpu and around 20 to 30% of my cpu so how does it get so little in the way of framerate 1920X1080 screen res which i use for my other games and medium settings on assasins creed black flag 60 fps high 1920×1080
