Apple orders 70 million iPhones ahead of launch

Earlier this month, KitGuru got an exclusive image of what we believe to be the iPhone 6 and now we have news that Apple has reportedly ordered 70 million iPhone units to be manufactured ahead of the device's launch in September this year.

The iPhone 6 will sport a larger 4.7 Inch screen made with Sapphire glass for greater protection against scratches. However, the 4.7 Inch model will only be half of Apple's huge order, the other half will be Apple's rumored 5.5 Inch model, which has still yet to be seen.

The figure shows that Apple is expecting big things from the iPhone 6 launch as it has ordered between 10 to 20 million more units than it did when the company launched the iPhone 5s and 5c.

This report comes on the eve of the announcement of Apple's third quarter earnings. Analysts are expecting Apple to have sold around 36 million iPhones, generating around half of the company's overall revenue. This would be a 14.85 per cent increase on Apple's Q3 results from last year.

Apple sold a record number of iPhones last year, shifting 51 million units during the fourth quarter, further proving that Apple's huge 70 million unit order shows that the company is expecting to sell a lot of units upon the iPhone 6 announcement.

KitGuru Says: I'm not sure that I like the look of the bigger iPhone, then again I didn't like the two toned back of the iPhone 5 at first but it grew on me over time. Will this be the biggest iPhone launch ever? What do you guys think?

  1. It’ll be like most iphones good features but basic software and your limited to itunes. Android is far superior os than ios but the fragmentation lets it down. IOS 7 was a improvement but having to use itunes to assign a new ring tone (that’s not built into the phone) is just apple’s way of making people to use itunes :/
