Angelbird 512GB wrk SSD Review

Rating: 8.0.

Angelbird. Not the first name many would associate with SSD technology – however this Austrian company have earned a reputation in the high end sector dealing with design professionals, music producers and film makers. One of the interesting aspects with Angelbird is that their drives are designed and manufactured in Austria. Today we are looking at their new 512GB wrk drive – a high end model using the Silicon Motion 2246EN controller.

The ‘wrk' SSD range is the latest from Angelbird. We would assume the name is a trendy abbreviation of the word ‘work' – to signify its adoption for the workstation and enterprise sector. This is the latest addition to an extensive range – they already have the Crest Mac SSD, AVpro, AVraw and SSD2go range available in the UK.

Angelbird will be releasing three capacities – a 128GB, 256GB and 512GB model. Prices are set at £59.96, £99.96 and £191.63 respectively. Today we take at a look at the largest in the range.

128GB: 149MB/s write – 561MB/s read – IOPS 67300
NAND: MT29F128G08CBCAB – L85A – 20nm Micron custom packed NAND

256GB: 297MB/s write – 563MB/s read – IOPS 72000
NAND: MT29F256G08CECAB – L85A – 20nm Micron custom packed NAND

512GB: 445MB/s write – 563MB/s read – IOPS 70500
NAND: MT29F512G08CMCAB – L85A – 20nm Micron custom packed NAND

Read performance is the same between all three drives, however write performance drops dramatically as capacity drops.
