New trademark filings reveal new games from Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser

Shortly after the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, left the company. After staying quiet for a few years, he officially unveiled his new company this year, known as Absurd Ventures. Now, months later, we have the first hints at what the company is working on, with new trademark filings revealing two potential video games.

As spotted by eagle-eyed Rockstar enthusiasts on the GTA forums, Houser's new company has filed for two trademarks this year, one titled “American Caper” and another titled “A Better Paradise“. It remains uncertain whether these trademarks represent distinct projects or if Absurd Ventures is taking a precautionary approach by securing multiple trademarks for a single, comprehensive project—possibly under the full title “American Caper: A Better Paradise.”

Despite Absurd Ventures positioning itself as a multimedia company, it is noteworthy that both trademarks fall under the category of “downloadable computer software,” suggesting a focus on gaming rather than other media formats like comics or films. However, it is not ruled out that future tie-in projects may complement the core gaming experience.

The trademark documentation also makes mention of digitally autographed items, so it is possible that Houser is exploring the use of NFTs. The trademark applications also cover software for cellular phones, hinting at a possible mobile companion app.

As Absurd Ventures takes its first steps into the spotlight, we're left waiting for further details on the nature and scope of “American Caper” and “A Better Paradise”.

KitGuru Says: Dan Houser made quite the name for himself in the games industry, so it isn't too surprising to see that he will continue to be involved in game development. These trademarks were filed for back in July, one month after the announcement of Absurd Ventures. Perhaps we'll get some official teasers over the course of the next year.
