Tekken developer making a Pokemon fighting game

Bandai Namco's Tekken development team is making a new fighting game based on the Pokemon series for Japanese arcades. The game is called Pokken and there is currently no word on whether or not the game will make its way to the Wii U or 3DS in Japan or the rest of the world.

The game looks how you would expect it to with 3D character models battling on a 2D plane. While we haven't seen any real gameplay yet we do have a nice looking trailer featuring Lucario battling it out with Machamp: [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7Cs4L1JALY']

Pokken Tournament

The official Pokemon Twitter account tweeted out last week, saying that there would be a “shocking” announcement this week. However, the only truly shocking thing about this announcement is that it appears to be a Japanese arcade exclusive, rather than a full blown Wii U title for world wide release.

That said, maybe we'll get more details soon. It would be a waste for Nintendo not to bring this game to the Wii U.

KitGuru Says: I wouldn't say that a Pokemon fighting game was really a shocking announcement. What do you guys think of this? Good move or bad move?

  1. It seemed funny to me at first, but when I saw the gameplay, I realized that’s not such a bad idea as I thought 🙂 Looks quite interesting

  2. If they include a LARGE roster of characters, tag battles, type weaknesses, and a system to select your team without the opponent knowing what you chose (so they cant see you chose all grass and then select and all fire team), that would be epic. Would be closer to how poke-battles would play out in real life.
