Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO, Jim Ryan, has reaffirmed the company's stance on EA's new subscription program, EA Access, stating that the $5 a month gaming service doesn't quite “fit into the framework of everything we do and everything that we offer.”
“We don’t have anything against EA Access, we just need to position it,” he said. “These sort of offerings they’ve got to fit into the framework of everything we do and everything that we offer. And we’re just not quite comfortable with how it sits within the whole ecosystem of our digital offering, including PlayStation Plus.”
The CEO then goes on to say that the company believes that Playstation Plus continues to offer better value with its two free games a month scheme. One thing that he didn't confirm was whether or not Playstation Now would eventually receive a subscription model offering.
Right now, EA Access is exclusive to the Xbox One and doesn't offer that many games. However, the list of games in ‘the vault' will only increase over time, which will in-turn, increase the service's value. There are currently no plans to bring EA Access to the PC.

KitGuru Says: I actually really like the idea of EA Access and I wouldn't mind it coming to the PC. It almost seems like Sony just doesn't want a service on its platform that could potentially compete with Playstation Now or Playstation Plus, which is a shame for PS4 owners. What do you guys think of EA Access? Is it a good idea?

I know someone who works for EA and EA Access isn’t going to be anything like PS Now. Though, they had planned/are planning a cross-buy like feature across all platforms. But Nintendo didn’t like anything they ahd to offer (and now EA don’t make games for Nintendo) and Sony are pushing back against third party stuff on their console. Which, while I can see Sony’s view, being strapped of cash, them doing this doesn’t win them any favours with EA or their fans.
But EA Access is not like PS Now, and that’s probably all I can say.
EA Access is already on PC to a point, between the timed game trials that EA has started recently, and their On The House program
EA access is an awesome feature i mean just for five buck you are able to play alot of games. if it comes to pc i’ll subscribe to it for sure.
As former games pirate (I am ahppy that i dont pirate no more) i would say people want things like these. with ea access i am sure we will reduce piracy by a huge factor. Please Ea bring this feature to pc
Sony strapped for cash lmfao that is one hell of an inaccurate statement right there, Sony payed a ton of money to Bungie for the exclusive DLC for Destiny, if they were strapped for cash they wouldn’t have been able to get any exclusive pre-order content let alone a full years DLC, they are making profits on every PS3, Vita and PS4 sold plus the added revenue from playstation plus, Sony are in the black my friend they haven’t been in the red years.
Oh, but they are strapped for cash. The entertainment division is ok (at least, Playstation), but Sony is hurting for $$$ right now: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/05/01/sony-financial-trouble/
The question is … when will new titles be included in “the vault”?
I mean, who will care about FIFA 14 when FIFA 15 will have been released ?
Same question for battlefield, or any annual IP from EA.
Even if you’re interested in a former version, you can find it for almost nothing once the new version is out.
But if newest titles are included right from the start or just a couple of month afterwards … it might be a good value.
