Nvidia Corp. plans to officially launch its next-generation flagship graphics offering this October or November, according to a media report. If the information is correct, then the firm will have a chance to boost its shipments this holiday season.
SweClockers reports that Nvidia’s next-generation high-end graphics cards – the GeForce GTX 870 and the GTX 880 – will be introduced in October or November. The graphics boards are projected to be based on the code-named GM204 graphics processors and belong to the second-generation Maxwell family of solutions. The chip is said to be made using 28nm process technology.
Specifications of the GM204 chip and the GeForce GTX 870 and the GTX 880 graphics cards are unknown, but the model numbers suggest that the solutions are positioned for the high-end market. The GeForce GTX 870 and 880 are expected to be faster than the currently available GeForce GTX 780 and 780 Ti graphics cards, which means that the GM204 chip is more powerful than the code-named GK110, the most complex graphics processing unit ever designed.
It will be interesting to see whether Nvidia’s GeForce 800-series of graphics cards will include any additional models, or will feature only two products based on the GM204 graphics processing units.
Nvidia is also rumoured to be working on the GM200 graphics processing unit that will succeed the GK110 and will be aimed not only on the market of gaming graphics cards, but also on supercomputers.
Nvidia did not comment on the news-story.

couldn’t care less…nvidia managed to betray the fans again….all that I have read about 880 indicate, gm204 is on 28nm fab proc, it will likely go the way of 750 and minimize the number of cores compared to other cards in it’s weight class, it will be only slightly more efficient then gtx 780 cards thanks to the core architecture (if u want to future proof ur PC u may have to wait for the 20nm/16nm edition), the 256 bit bus width will be a bottle neck (any one who thinks maxwell has stacked memory should keep it in their pants, memory stacking was announced by nvidia to be used in pascal core to be released in 2016), it will likely be 4gb (3.7 gb required to run 1440p at ultra setting, hence not optimized for 4k) in order to save space on the pcb, and rumors so far indicate nvidia is likely to hold off ARMs core from the 28nm cards hence it is not a next gen card it is just a more efficient version of kepler core.
Hey on the bright side nvidia might pull a fast one on us like they did with 780ti (we thought it was going to clock faster then titan…no one expected a fully unlocked gk110 chip)….or they might just make a titan 2 with 20nm fab, integrated ARM core serial processor, 512 bit bus, 8 gb ram and charge us a liver and a kidney for it.
i wish they’d quit putting out a new series of cards every year. i just finally upgraded my 560 SC to a 770 FTW and now they’re telling me they have an 870 that’ll be better than a 780 ti…. 🙁
Future proof PC, lol, there’s no such thing. Cpu one generally replace every 3-4 years, GPU every 1-2 years.

That’s why you don’t buy hardware when it’s been out for over a year. I’m going to be upgrading my 770 to one or two 880’s at the end of the year when they’re released.
i HOPE the 870 will be $399, or less, like the 770 was. that is what i am aiming to get. probably won’t get it till February though, so by then it may come down in price, and have many different cooling options.
i bought my 770 last august, it was out for like 2 months.
if u have the right card 8 years! I say this because I am still running ultra 1080p on an 8 year old card and it runs smooth!
I intended to upgrade to 800 after 8 years of running a dual core gtx 200 (don’t feel sorry my card is a beast there is still no dx10 game that I can’t run on ultra 1080p). but the rumors around this card are beginning to make me worry if it would be worth buying.
So long as we see an 8GB version I don’t see any reason to not get an 800 series. 4GB is cutting it a little close as games already use over 3GB, but the power they’re supposed to be pushing along with another jump up in cores and less power consumption certainly makes them attractive. Not to mention it’s 2 years at THIS point before the Pascal series comes out. Could easily get pushed back to be in 2017 before we see them.

I dont think it’ll be that faster, i can imagine to be faster than the 780 but it might be almost equal to the 780ti.
oh, pardon me, i suppose i should have said, “i stuck it around with my 560, even though i kept wanting to upgrade it, until the 700 series came out and then decided to buy a new card that i had hoped would keep on top for atleast 3 years”
i was just going by what the article says. it would at the very least have to be equal to the ti, but they said faster.
You were never on top with a 770 anyway. Besides, one could score a second 770 for cheap and being doing quite well with two. I stayed away from the 700 series because I have two 4gb 680 FTW’s which have been doing great for two years. I will be trading them in for the 880 though.

but a 780 only has 3 GB of vram. watchdogs took advantage of 3 on ultra, but as soon as a game decides to ram it up to 4, my 770 will more than likely outperform a 780.
price to performance ratio, i paid 420$ for my card on sale when i got it. the 780’s of the similar class were still over 600$ at that point. i think i got the better deal
ill be running 4690k Graphics till February, so my gaming will be limited to some smaller/older games. LoL, i picked up ‘The Dig’ on a steam sale. but i am waiting till i get the 870 to play my other games, so i can max them out.
the 770 was better than the 680 (and they were the same Kepler architecture). with this being a new MAxwell chip, i have no doubts that the 870 will be better than the 780 ^_^ can’t wait to see it
Your 770 will never outperform a 780. Using Watchdogs as a comparison is silly. I had WD since before it’s release. The game was released with no optimization whatsoever. Yes under rammed cards choked but this was not a hardware issue, strictly software. They have already released patches due to the memory leak issues.
Not really when you think about it. A 780 puts down 2000 more marks from passmark. So had you waited a little longer you could have bought a 780 for $469 and be doing far better with it than a 770. Your extra memory wont help performance. Watchdogs was bad. Name another game 780’s have issue with. YOU CANT!

so, waited longer, like the start of this where someone was saying to not buy cards after they’ve been on the market for a bit.
and while a 780 still out performs a 770, benchmarks are generally reference to reference, which would mean this is a stock 770 2 GB against a stock 780 3 GB.
I tend to look at performance and real data versus what somebody on a forum says. Another member said it wouldn’t be faster than a 780ti but we both know that isn’t true. I picked up my first 680 when they first came out and it was top end at the time. I picked up second 680 a year later for much cheaper. The 880 won’t beat my twin 680’s on supported SLI games or in benchmarking but it should be fairly close. Selling my two 680’s will pay for the majority of one 880, and a year later I can buy a second.
Lmao first off the 880 will outpeform your 680’s 10 times over because 780 easily out performs your 680’s… and second I dont know how you plan on gettin majority of 880 retail price from selling those…only way i see that happen if you sell them to a gullible friend who has no knowledge of PC’s..what an outlandish thing to say. you know dam well your cards aren’t worth shit….

Dont sell your 680s. they use very little power compared to 700 series. The 880 will maybe be better than 780ti, but it will never beat 680 gtx 4GB SLI. I repeat NEVER.

680 4GB SLI beats any single gpu on market. I have 780 and a 680 SLI setup. I get way more fps on the 680s even when 780 is overclocked to Core1200mhz/Memory1900mhz

My 780 6GB strix outperform 780 ti when it is overclocked. 780 TI isnt worth over 780 IMO only a couple of FPS more not much.

I came into the discussion with knowledge and experience. You never had a chance.
I have no doubt. I’ve been running these for awhile now and it’s been a fantastic setup coupled with my 9590. I dual-boot Win/Linux and game on both systems using Steam. No SLI issues whatsoever and my Proc is still asking for more.
From what I can tell the 880 *should* be close to the performance of the 680-sli. It has to better than a 780ti to be worth it. I tend to upgrade my system often, using ebay as an outlet to sell my gently used parts.
If the 880 benches close to a 680-sli I will likely get an 880 to start. Two 880’s should last me as long as these 680’s have, if not longer.

The video card benchmark site is not a great place for real world perfomance results,
I could be wrong, ( I only have a single AMD card ) but I was under the impression that two cards are not faster than one card, so let’s say you have one card that can play game X at 40fps with just the one card this average rate can fluctuate resulting a few missing frames here and there, however with two cards you supposedly get a consistent 40fps in said game. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought a cards performance is limited by factors such as clock speed, die layout, transistor density etc so how could two cards running a same speed be faster than one running as that same speed, I’m a nube to sys building just made the one, some one of knowledge please clarify ! Passmark is not a good measurement of video card performance? Says who? The results from passmark are real world benchmarks from people like you and me. You will get similar results with 3DMark.
Two cards will give you anywhere from 50-100% more FPS depending on the game. Benchmarking will give you much closer to 100%. If you were getting up to 40fps with a single card, having two of them could get you up to 80fps.
The discussion had to do with two 680’s versus a single 780. Two 680’s are going to win against any single 780 or 880 for that matter but if the game doesn’t support SLI, the second card won’t be doing much.
