G.Skill adds 3333MHz DDR4 memory modules into lineup

G.Skill this week added two new DDR4 options into the lineup of its memory modules. The new quad-channel memory kits for Intel Corp.’s latesthigh-end desktop “Haswell-E” platforms run at industry-leading frequencies of 3300MHz/3333MHz.

The new “extreme high-end” Ripjaws 4-series DDR4 memory modules come in 16GB quad-channel kits. G.Skill's latest DDR4 memory solutions are rated to run at 3300MHz or 3333MHz with CL16 16-16-36 latency settings at 1.35V voltage. G.Skill claims that the modules are fully validated on the Asus Rampage V Extreme X99 motherboard. The Ripjaws 4 memory modules with clock-rates over 2400MHz support Intel XMP 2.0 for automatic and trouble-free tuning.

Quite naturally, the new ultra-high-end DDR4 memory modules from G.Skill cost significantly more than slightly slower solutions. For example, the Ripjaws 3200MHz 16GB DDR4 kit costs $469 in the U.S., whereas the Ripjaws 3300MHz 16GB DDR4 kits is priced at whopping $579. The cost of the 3333MHz quad-channel kit is unclear, but a rumour has it that it will carry rather incredible $699 price-tag.

It is expected that later this year 3400MHz (3.40GHz) DDR4 memory modules will become available.

KitGuru Says: While the number 3333MHz looks clearly better than the number 3300MHz, the actual performance difference between the two 16GB DDR4 memory kits is negligible and cannot justify the huge difference in price.
