Warner Bros refusing to give out PC review codes for Shadow of Mordor

Rating: 0.0.

It has been revealed that Warner Bros won't be giving out any PC review codes before the launch of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. However, some outlets will be receiving console copies for review, casting doubt on the quality of the PC port.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is already doing fairly well, it's got a lot of hype surrounding it and is currently one of the top selling titles on Steam, despite it not being out yet. However, potential pre-order customers and day one buyers may want to hold off for PC reviews to arrive as there is bound to be a reason behind the lack of PC review codes and so far Warner Bros has yet to explain why this has happened.

This might not necessarily mean that the game itself is bad, it might have good gameplay and an engaging story but controlled launch coverage of a game shouldn't be considered a good thing, it means that buyers are less informed than they should be during the days following release.

Rock Paper Shotgun was the first to break this news, although the story is still developing. The game doesn't come out until the 30th of September so while some reviewers have been told that they won't be receiving a PC code, there is still plenty of time for Warner Bros to change its mind.

KitGuru Says: I'm looking forward to Shadow of Mordor but I am a little wary now that we know there likely won't be any PC reviews on launch day. What do you guys think? Could we be looking at a poorly made PC port? Do you care if Publishers control the information that gets out leading up to a game's launch? Personally, I think buyers on all platforms have a right to know what they are getting themselves in to when purchasing a brand new game.

  1. No matter what I am buying it because it is Lord of the Rings. It would be nice to have a pre-release review though.

  2. if its turns out to be good and they just want the PC port to amaze us all on release that’s fine. But if its a crap port (think GTA 4 on release) they are gonna get a lot of hate. and im gonna wait for some steam Reviews before buying it.

  3. nowadays publisher tend not to tell how their game is like prerelease. maybe they shouldn’t try to release a game as early as possible and instead release games that are done and don’t need a bunch of patches straight after the game came out.

  4. I want to play this game so badly 🙂

  5. Not me, I want to do a good job when I play it

  6. Me too, can’t wait to play this game, that should be taking place late next year because I have to many now.

  7. This is the one of the few buys for me this year as I will wait for Borderlands : The Pre-quel GOTY edition ! if it fails , then i am not sure will pre-order or buy in 2014 anymore ! We need a PC Review !

  8. “then i am not sure will pre-order or buy in 2014 anymore” seriously? so what, you’ll hold back for three months? what a commitment.

  9. This is shameful. I just want to remind you that *most* companies are looking for cash, not to make you happy. Therefore, NEVER pre order games. This game certainly seems to have interesting mechanics and hell, it’s a continuation of the LOTR franchise, but that doesnt make it any more illegible for pre-ordering. Do NOT pre order games. And frankly, what will the pre order give you anyway? a skin and an overpowered piece of equipment xD ? you can live without. If you’re concerned about having the game for launch just look out for first day or second day reviews and you’ll see directly if the game is horribly bad. Id wait a week or so to know exactly what the game is on about, but then thats up to you. It’s pre-ordering that’s stupid.

  10. I have pre-ordered it ! But i can cancel it anytime. Choice and Option are there ! I am not picking Borderlands : The Pre-Sequel as i know there will be GOTY edition & i still have the other 2. Only one game is confirmed for 2014 & ordered is AC: Unity. 2015 i have both Witcher 3 & Batman Arkhma Knight ! Not mention as many i have few unfinished game.

  11. The point is that you shouldn’t pre-order it in the first place. And that your sanctions for if it turns out the game is completely broken or rubbish are way too lenient.

  12. I agree ! i am looking at stuff with more sense. Still what to do when a company do this. I am LOR fan, i miss the Battle For Middle Earth kind of games. But you have a point. i will hopefully stop it once and for all. beside games with hefty discount and reviews is better always.

  13. …Battle for middle earth is strategy… but yeah i get your point 😉
Hope this game is as good as we all expect it to be.
