Overclockers UK radically slashes price of GeForce GTX Titan Z

Nvidia Corp.’s GeForce GTX Titan Z was hardly ever supposed to become a popular solution on the market because of its unprecedented price. However, five months after the release, this price seems to go down, at least in select cases.

When the dual-chip triple-slot GeForce GTX Titan Z hit the U.K. market in late May, it cost whopping £2399.99, the highest price of a consumer-class graphics card ever. After a couple of months of Titan Z’s availability a number of retailers started to offer £100 discounts on select GeForce GTX Titan Z 12GB models, whereas Nvidia decided to provide certain discounts to system builders who used the dual-GPU graphics board inside their gaming rigs sometimes in late August. Recently things started to intensify.

Last week Overclockers.co.uk dropped the price of the GeForce GTX Titan Z to £1999.99, which was a significant drop. This week OcUK slashed another £500 and now the GeForce GTX Titan Z from Gigabyte Technology and Palit cost £1499.99. A model from EVGA costs £200 more, it is priced at £1699.99.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan Z is powered by two Nvidia GK110 GPUs in their full configuration with 2880 stream processors, 240 texture units and 48 raster operations pipelines. The graphics processors operate at 705MHz in default mode and 876MHz in “boost” mode. Because of the low GPU clock-rates, the Titan Z is easily outperformed by two GeForce GTX Titan Black graphics cards (with the same GPU configuration) that cost a lower amount of money.

While the GeForce GTX Titan Z was designed for gamers and PC enthusiasts who demand to have absolutely the best hardware possible, it has never been the best. Even despite of all price-cuts, the GeForce GTX Titan Z does not seem to be a really good offering now that the new generation GeForce GTX 900-series based on the Maxwell architecture has arrived. Another problem that the GeForce GTX Titan Z has on the market is the Radeon R9 295X2 for £699 or £659.

KitGuru Says: Buying a GeForce GTX Titan Z graphics card today is like buying an outdated supercar. You can get similar performance at a lower price and with improved comfort and safety. However, there are people who like “unicorns” like the GeForce GTX Titan Z or the 1967 Ford Mustang GT500 “Eleanor”, aren’t there?

  1. Ridiculous overkill for a gaming PC.

Might as well buy a Bugatti Veyron for the school-run.

I guess if you have an unlimited pot of cash, why not?

  2. Would love to play with one of these cards. But I would never buy it. Nor will I ever have money for it anyways, so.

  3. I think the price now matches the price for OEMs. If I am not mistaken Nvidia had droped long ago the price for OEMs from $3000 to $1800.
Anyway still ridiculous price. And if we are talking about gaming and not compute, then it is the ridiculous king of the ridiculous pricing of all time next to a 970 SLi.

  4. I wouldn’t say overkill, We still need crap loads more performance from gpu’s especially now with 4k becoming cheaper.
It’s over priced, The better option would be to grab the AMD dual card or go with 2x980gtx cards either will be cheaper and give better performance if it’s games you are into.

  6. Because some of us will buy it…. Because some of us can afford it…. And because two of them makes us drool…. Oh and also because 4K at smoother frame rates…
