Modern Warfare 3 may not hit Game Pass this year but other ActiBlizz games will

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is set to close any day now and with that, we expect to see many games hitting Xbox Game Pass for the first time. However, in an effort to protect sales of games like Diablo 4 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Activision has put out a statement this week claiming that it has no plans to put games on Game Pass until 2024. However, sources indicate that is not entirely the truth.

In a statement published this week, Activision said: “As we continue to work toward regulatory approval of the Microsoft deal, we’ve been getting some questions about whether our upcoming and recently launched games will be available via Game Pass. While we do not have plans to put Modern Warfare III or Diablo IV into Game Pass this year, once the deal closes, we expect to start working with Xbox to bring our titles to more players around the world. And we anticipate that we would begin adding games into Game Pass some time in the course of next year.”

However, Microsoft and Xbox-focused journalist, Jez Corden, says this statement may not be entirely true. While specific new releases like Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo 4 may be held back, Windows Central reports that it has heard from sources that a bunch of Activision games are indeed planned for Game Pass as soon as the deal is closed.

This likely means we'll see the backlog of Call of Duty titles added to Game Pass, following Microsoft's revival of multiplayer servers from the Xbox 360-era COD titles. We may also see a flurry of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, alongside other dormant IP, like Prototype.

KitGuru Says: While I didn't expect Modern Warfare 3 to suddenly become a day-one Game Pass title, I do think we'll see the series make that jump starting in 2024.
