Highly anticipated Ubisoft games return to Steam

Ubisoft and Valve Software have returned three of Ubisoft's soon-to-be bestsellers to Steam online store on Saturday after they were removed from the system on Thursday and Friday. Neither Ubisoft, nor Valve have made any official statements on the matter.

Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, and The Crew – the titles that are expected to become massively popular this holiday season – are available from Steam digital distribution service worldwide (update: except the U.K. at press time) again. Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 4 are also available from Electronic Arts’ Origin service as well. All three titles can also be purchased using Uplay system and Ubisoft’s online store.

The reasons why the three games were removed from Steam earlier this week remain completely unclear. In fact, it is even unknown whether Ubisoft pulled them out, or Valve Software kicked them off the platform because of something.

According to media reports, those, who have pre-ordered Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 or The Crew from Steam will get their games, just as expected.

Gamers can get one of the three titles for free with the purchase of an Nvidia GeForce GTX-series graphics card that is a part of the company's “Pick Your Path” promotion.

KitGuru Says: While it is definitely nice to see the three games back at Steam, the situation with removed and returned titles seem to be rather unpleasant. Not only Ubisoft and Steam have frustrated many gamers who pre-ordered their desired titles from them a long time ago, but they also harmed confidence in digital distribution in general (even though, given the convenience of Steam, Origin, etc., people will continue to use them, but will be more cautious now). Hopefully, both Ubisoft and Valve have learnt something from the situation and it will never happen again.

  1. It says world wide but on my steam they still don’t come up?

  2. Looks like worldwide except the U.K. The games are available in Europe, the U.S. and Australia.

  3. I really hope these come back to steam in the UK, looking forward to ACU and FC4.

  4. $59.99 = £39.99. That’s more like it. £50 was taking the piss.

Whats with game developers always segregating UK from Europe anyway? Sure we don’t really want to be part of Europe anymore but that doesn’t mean we currently aren’t. Is it solely because of currency type?

  6. so basically they figured everyone will purchase it on steam, mainly because origin sucks.

  8. uPlay ._.

  9. Software developers have done a lot of strange things historically. Maybe that’s because of the currency, maybe because of various regulations and laws…

  10. If not, I may pirate FC4 to give it a play.

  11. I don’t think that they will have harmed confidence in Steam. They have certainly harmed Ubi’s rep though. We all know this will be some crap on the end of Ubi, not Steam.

  12. I haven’t even finished an Ubisoft game in a long, long time.

As much as I love feeling like I’m watching a visually stunning
blockbuster Hollywood film I also like my games to have challenging,
intuitive and imaginative gameplay mechanics. That is, games that
capitalize on their /game play/ rather than trying to be a movie for
which the need can simply be filled by, you know, watching a movie.

New and exciting gameplay coupled with a compelling and engrossing story
that not only puts me into, but keeps me in another world for a 12 hour
single player experience and I simply can’t resist, the problem is that
Ubisoft does not, and has not for a long time, completed either of these
    perquisites for a good game.

Say what you will about (whatever your favourite Ubisoft game is) but the
truth cannot be denied that Ubisoft as a company does not make good
games, they are only capable of making ‘fun’ games for a certain type of
    gamer.
