Unity has been a hit with indie game developers, providing the tools to create high quality games on a budget. However, it looks like the platform may soon have a new owner as Unity is reportedly up for sale.
A presentation outlining the value of the business is apparently doing the rounds, even turning up at companies like Google. Insiders have claimed that detailed talks have been held already with at least one potential buyer. Unity has become a popular choice amongst game developers as it allows for easy cross platform development.
The platform currently has three million registered users, which actually works out as almost half of all developers. Blizzard recently chose the Unity engine to create hearthstone for the PC and iPad. Other notable games utilizing the engine include Garry Newman's Rust, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity and Surgeon Simulator.
The owners of Unity have yet to comment on these new rumors. We also don't know which companies are currently in the running to acquire Unity, although we do know that they'll be looking to pay around $2 billion.
