Switch surpasses 132 million units as TotK nears 20 million

When all is said and done, the Nintendo Switch will have been one of the most successful video game consoles of all time, not only due to the number of systems sold, but also thanks to the sheer abundance of software – with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom having sold nearly 20 million copies in less than 5 months.

As part of the company’s Quarterly fiscal earnings report, Nintendo released updated sales figures for the Switch console as well as its first-party software titles, revealing that the 2017 handheld hybrid is continuing to sell like hotcakes. With just under 3 million units sold since the last Quarter, total Switch console sales now stand at 132.46 million – making it just over 20 million units away from becoming the best-selling console of all time.

Perhaps even more impressive is just how many millions of copies of first-party software have been sold, with the best selling Switch game (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) continuing its reign with 57.01 million copies sold – not including the Wii U original.

Nintendo’s biggest game of the year of course was The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Less than 5 months from its May release, the game has sold just shy of 20 million copies (19.5 million to be specific as of the 30th of September).

It would seem as though TotK’s $70 price tag has done little to affect its sales. It’ll be interesting to see how Super Mario Bros. Wonder performs when the title is included in the next Quarterly report.
