Alleged specs of Nvidia’s GM200 GPU revealed: 50% faster than Titan Black

An unknown person has benchmarked an unknown graphics card using SiSoftware’s Sandra benchmark, according to online database of the program. Based on the specification of the hardware, the person benchmarked a graphics card powered by Nvidia Corp.’s code-named GM200 graphics processing unit. If the specs are correct, then expect graphics cards featuring the new flagship GPU to offer 50 per cent higher compute performance when compared to GeForce GTX Titan Black.

Based on an entry in the SiSoftware’s database, Nvidia’s GM200 graphics processing unit features 3072 stream processors, 24 streaming multiprocessors (SMM), 3MB L2 cache and 384-bit memory bus. If the architecture of SMMs and graphics processing clusters (GPCs) of the GM200 is similar to that of SMMs and GPCs of the GM204, then the chip sports 192 texture units and 96 raster operations pipelines. The graphics card based on the GM200 GPU features 1.1GHz/1.39GHz GPU frequencies as well as 6GHz memory clock-rate; the board is equipped with 12GB of GDDR5 memory.

If the information in SiSoftware’s database is accurate, then graphics cards based on the GM200 will offer a dramatic performance advantage over existing GeForce GTX Titan Black graphics adapters thanks to increased efficiency of the Maxwell architecture (by up to 35 per cent per stream processor on shader-limited workloads), increased number of SPs (by 6 per cent) and amplified frequency (by 23.7 per cent).

It is expected that the first graphics cards powered by the GM200 graphics processors will emerge in the first quarter of 2015. It is interesting to note that the new graphics boards will compete against AMD’s Radeon R9 390X graphics adapters that are also projected to arrive in the Q1 2015.

Nvidia did not comment on the news-story.

KitGuru Says: If next-generation flagship graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia – the Radeon R9 390X and the GeForce GTX Titan 2015 – emerge around the same time in early 2015, this will be the first time in many years when comparable graphics solutions from the two companies hit the market at once and have to compete head-to-head. This should be quite interesting, as both companies will have to adjust price and performance in order to position their products in the best possible way.

  1. *cough* I, uh… I think I’ll hold off on getting the 980 and see what GM200 is all about 🙂

  2. say 300 pounds, will get me one ? fine, i am in.

  3. double it and you might have a chance but i’d expect the titan replacement to be north of 799

  4. Just bought 2x GTX 980s -_-… really.. Im contented but is there any point getting any card right now? Got the 980s – Cards been discontinued – 8gb versions coming out.. now this? Cant keep up haha

  5. In late 2015/early 16

  6. no way id say 900 +

  7. They are great cards and will last you for a while. I’m sure the new amount of cards coming out are just to see how far the research into better graphics can go so they put a price tag on it along the way.

  8. hahahahahahaha late 2015/early 2016? But LOL
The r9 390x and gm200 are supposed to be launch at the very beginning of the 2015 (jan/feb)

  9. I know, and your 200% right but, it burrrrnnn! 😀 Contacted Nvida, least i got a little compensation 🙂

  10. Taking the rumours of the 390X into account, this could be a very close match. I’d go as far as to say the 390X (if the rumours hold up) will outperform the Titan at 4K, and match it at lower resolutions.

  11. Oh? what did you get if you don’t mind me asking

  12. Looks like I’ll wait for this one instead of getting the 8 GB GTX 980. Maybe I’ll get the Titan version just for the hell of it.

  13. Just got the 970. Happy with it for 1080p40fps. Will upgrade to Pascal next in 2016 to power the possibly Oculus Rift 1440p90fps.

  14. Glad I held off on buying 3 4gb 980s now lol, want to make absolutely sure I can run Witcher 3 and GTA 5 on maxed out settings at 4k 🙂 with a consistent 60 fps ofc. Will be perfect if they launch this at the start of next year.

  15. Let’s say AMD’s next gen are farther off than expected, then GM200 will first go into Titan Black’s successor. Reason? Without a pre-existing competitor threat, there is no reason to lower the probably price of $999 MSRP. It’s the first Titan all over again.

GTX970/GTX980 were already acting as the preemptive strike against anything AMD could bring to the table. But in hindsight, considering the shortages, nVidia priced them too low.

  16. I clearly remember seeing a review of GeForce 7800GTX playing the first F.E.A.R. at 2560×1600 max detail only made 40fps. The hardware of the day can’t keep up with the software of the day, it is the same situation now with what a single-GPU does on a single display.

I think most people forget when they hope and dream about the capabilities of upcoming technology, that the entire infrastructure changes too– they don’t keep their old games just because they couldn’t afford the technology at the time to make it look good. Some might, but most move on to the next game that makes their system impotent.

Therefore, the only way future technology will give you more frame rates at higher resolutions than today is either deliberate overkill with a bigger budget or get new games less often. Since most enthusiasts refuse either option, I can’t have sympathy when a new game or hardware debuts.

  17. I’m interested in the compensation you received. At the moment, this is nothing but a rumor, and I find it a bit hard to believe that you actually got something from the company. There’s nothing confirmed — the general population doesn’t know for sure if an 8 GB model of the 980 is coming out soon. Sure it’s probably going to happen, but no one knows for sure. I’d like to know what you got, and if you don’t say anything, then we can all come to the conclusion that you’re BS’ing.

  18. If it’s a fully unlocked GM200, then I’m going to say “screw it” and get it. If the rumors of 12 GB VRAM hold true, then it’ll be nice to power my near-future 3440×1440 monitor.

  19. Only got to choose one of the three games they were offering. Hopefully ACU is good.
@Garret easy buddy, got better things to do than “BS” about getting a free game haha.

  20. I kinda wish I held off as well but depending what your coming from, for me I was coming from a GTX 580 with 1.5gb so I am very happy. It plays all my games maxed in 5760 x 1080 and even if It can’t at that res, brining it down to 1080p these cards will kill anything

  21. Ironbunny IonBunny

    Yup.. and just in time!

  22. ACU? Oh dear lol. Terrible port, horrendous optimization, full of bugs, and littered with micro-transaction cancer apparently. A game best left to the casual console peasants.

  23. Ah man really. .. I’ve been holding off from reading reviews haha. last one I played was AC2 but right now it’s very hard to keep my attention with games, so good thing it was free

  24. 1080p for a powerful GTX 970? Holy bottleneck!

  25. What I meant was at least 40+ fps for every game at max. settings. So, perhaps games like ACU, Crysis 3 etc. will hover around 40fps while other games will easily do 60+ fps at 1080p.

  26. Considering Sapphire’s 8GB 290X is on the market and other companies are following suit, I’d say it would be pretty stupid for Nvidia to not have 8GB 980s.

  27. The HBM part is confirmed, so we just have to see what the structure around the 64 Compute Units in the 390X is going to look like. If Tonga was any indication, the 390X is probably going to have the power consumption of a 290(non x) and perform at least on par with the Titan X.

  28. No aggression intended, if that’s how you took my comment. I was just interested in what you received, as that would lead to a partial-confirmation about something.

So just to clarify: you were slightly disappointed with buying 2 980’s with the 8 GB model just about to be released. Did you contact Nvidia about this and they gave you the free game? Or did you get the free game for a different reason?

Reason I want to know is mainly because I’m interested in the 8 GB 980, or just the full-on Titan that’s rumored to be released in Q1. I just mainly want a graphics upgrade that’s going to last me.

Oh, and about the BS part in my previous comment, the reason I was a bit “edgy” was because I saw that you didn’t tell anyone what you received at that point, so I had to word it in a way that would almost “force” you to tell us.

By the way, have fun with ACU. It’s pretty badly optimized, but it does look pretty nice. There are also lots of bugs — the game is in dire need of a patch, but it’s probably a pretty good game once you get around all of those issues.

  29. As far as gaming GPU’s are concerned, I’d love to see AMD take the performance crown with the generation Graphics Cards. They haven’t done for so long now. We’ll have to see how much of a difference that stacked memory makes, if it is actually using that.

  30. Unless you’re going to be using three of those monitors, there’s really no way you’re going to saturate the VRAM on that card, or even come close.

  31. I have a Core i7 5820K that I bought because… Why the hell not? The point of this PC is not to save money, but to be a bit over-the-top. It’s great for dealing with bad console ports or horrible optimization like any Ubisoft game released in the past year.

  32. Just got some new rumors, with possible benchmarks, and if they’re true then the 390X is going to have power consumption under 250W

  33. 12GB of GDDR5 memory… on one chip?

  34. Well you were the closest lol, $1000 if you get it straight from Nvidia, $1,099 elsewhere (money grubbing newegg -__-) so e900 – e1000 is a good estimate (no euro sign on my kb, sorry)

  35. Yeah! Cards are so expensive on release.
